Traditionally, batch processes are found in a variety of chemical,
pharmaceutical, dyes-intermediates, paints, fine chemicals,
speciality chemicals and other chemical industry.
Design of batch
process plants differs from continuously operating processes in
several aspects. Knowledge in these aspects helps a lot in
optimizing the batch plants which are otherwise a lot more energy
efficient against their continuous plant counterparts.
The course broadly covers the following topics specific to the batch processes.
-
Material and Heat Balance
-
Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) development
-
Basics of pipe selection and of mechanical design of equipment
-
Line sizing for various services
-
Determination of capacity of batch processes
-
Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development
-
Instrumentation and process control
-
Selection, sizing and specifications of various process equipment involved in batch processes
-
Introduction to the contents of Basic Engineering Package (BEP)
-
Sizing of various utility systems and selection
-
Vacuum systems
-
Hazardous area classification
-
